Fruitage Report from Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Seattle Lecture Committee

From the Reading Room of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Kent

Report to the Washington Broadcasting Committee

There is a Renaissance of Christian Science going on in the Puget Sound area! The ‘dormant understanding’ is being aroused and people are feeling energized. It is clear to me that a big part of it is from the work of the Washington Broadcasting Committee! The Sentinel Radio Program is being heard by more Christian Scientists and others. The announcements about lectures following the broadcasts is reaching far more people and keeping it in thought and on people’s calendars.

Only good is going on. This last year, as lecture chair, I contacted Joy Entienne regarding advertising our lecture on the Sentinel Radio Program, as well as inquiring on how much it would cost to advertise our lecture on the radio. I was inquiring because two branch churches were going to be sharing the costs, because their lectures were one day apart. Her immediate response was silence. Then she said it was a very good time for rates in advertising and that she would get back to me. Then she paused again and said, "You just don’t know what this means to me. I have been begging churches to advertise on the radio, and here you are calling me about this very thing. You are answered prayer."

Answered prayer it was for both of us! What ensued was being embraced with a wealth of knowledge on how to advertise, rate options and most importantly, what to say as we go out into the community and talk one on one to people about our lecture! It gave me such courage and conviction on just how important it is to let people - individuals, friends, acquaintances, the public, and the receptive heart, hear about our lecture. The ripple effect of this conversation resulted in 25 joyous ushers uplifting the thought of the 197 people finding their way to our lecture on the University of Washington campus. Without this understanding on reaching out to everyone in a broader sense, including radio advertising, I feel our wonderful message of healing would not have reached so many individuals.

We took a survey of attendees asking how they heard about the lecture, including radio advertising. About 5% answered responded with the radio. Each time the advertising was broadcast, it brought Christian Science in front of people. Each time it sent out into the community that Christian Science is alive and well, not hiding under a rock. Even though the majority of people who heard it did not come, they heard in the message that their prayers were important and effective to peace in the world.

Not only has this radio advertising brought fruition to the public, it has brought Christian Scientists together. A direct result of this outreach, is the forming of an area lecture committee chair roundtable discussion on how we can work together and support each other in our lecture planning, coordinating dates, and ideas on options of advertising. One key factor from the Broadcasting Committee was the opportunity to go to the radio station to hear a presentation on how to best get results with our radio/TV advertising dollars. This information has been inspiring to lecture chairs all over Puget Sound. More round tables are planned and we want more information on what is possible in broadcasting.

The beautiful part is the awakening of Christian Scientists, to come together and reach out to our communities rather than to just share this precious Science amongst ourselves. A vital part of this is with the Washington Broadcast Committee. Thank you so much for your prayers and support and the good work that you are all doing to keep this aspect of reaching our fellow man in so many meaningful ways.

From the Reading Room of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Kent...

"Good morning!  IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL TODAY!

The Reading Room windows on The Sentinel Radio are finished. This theme is in all of the windows. Peggy helped me do it yesterday. I rounded up the ideas and the stuff and Peggy, with her great eye for design, helped put it in the windows. It looks very clean and stylish I think. Come and see!!!

We were almost finished and realized we could use a little more here and there, so at the last minute I ran back to the printers and enlarged some covers of the Sentinel CD.s. A sweet Hispanic man working there, came to the front desk and asked if these CD's were healing tapes. I said .Yes, they are people talking who have had healing experiences. His eyes just lit up. I asked him if he would like the CD that he was copying the cover to. He beamed and said "Yes." I said I had two more in my purse, and would he like those also. He was all smiles ear to ear. He thanked me profusely. Then he shook my hand reverently and told me his name. He asked if I had the shop on the corner of Meeker and 1st, all the while smiling so sweetly. Then he thanked me again as I left. Ah, it made my day, to say the least.

Hope all is well with all of your wonderful endeavors. I think of you often with JOY.

Much love,

Susie"
